Anthony's Coal Fired Pizza & Wings Named #1 Best Pizza Chain by Newsweek Readers
Before the second national title, there was the first. Newsweek’s Readers’ Choice Awards named Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza & Wings the #1 Best Pizza Chain in America in 2025, and the win wasn’t close.
Newsweek put the vote to readers across the country, with a panel of travel writers and food contributors helping shape the nominations. Anthony’s came out on top ahead of chains with hundreds more locations, a testament to the loyalty of every guest who’s pulled up a chair, ordered the wings, and kept coming back. The write-up called out what regulars already know: hand-picked Italian tomatoes, freshly grated Pecorino Romano, buffalo wings and meatballs your Nonna would approve of, all fired at 900 degrees in a coal oven that no conventional kitchen can touch. They also highlighted the Half & Half Specialty, two pizzas in one, for anyone who still can’t pick a favorite.
With locations across Massachusetts, Pennsylvania, Delaware, New Jersey, New York and Florida, Anthony’s has stayed intentionally small. No shortcuts, no shortcuts on quality, no cutting corners to chase a store count. Just the same coal-fired craft that opened its first doors in 2002 in South Florida.
This recognition set the stage for what came next. A year later, Reviewed’s Readers’ Choice Awards named Anthony’s the Best National Pizza Chain of 2026 — back-to-back, two years running, two of the country’s biggest publications pointing at the same name.
