Company Opens McMurray Restaurant – its 39th Nationally

McMURRAY, Pa. – (August 29, 2013) – Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, the South Florida-based concept that uses authentic coal-burning ovens to create “well done pizza,” opened its third Pittsburgh-area restaurant in McMurray on Monday, Aug. 26. The restaurant is located at 102 McDowell Lane in the former Damon’s Grill location.

Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza, which includes local legend Dan Marino and founder/CEO Anthony Bruno among several equity partners, debuted in Fort Lauderdale, Fla., in 2002 and has expanded to 39 restaurants throughout Florida and into Pennsylvania, New York, New Jersey, Connecticut and Delaware.

Marino celebrated the restaurant opening on Thursday, Aug. 29, and visited PNC Park to throw out the First Pitch in the Pittsburgh Pirates game.

The first two Pittsburgh-area Anthony’s opened in Robinson Township in 2011 and Monroeville in 2012. A fourth is expected to open in Cranberry Township in January 2014.

“I’m overwhelmed by the support my hometown has given our restaurants,” said Marino, a National Football League Hall of Famer who graduated from Central Catholic High School and the University of Pittsburgh. “My partners and I knew Pittsburgh would be a great Anthony’s city and I am so proud of our success here.”

Known for its high-energy atmosphere and signature menu items, Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza uses 800-degree anthracite coal-burning ovens and the highest quality ingredients. Anthracite is known to be the “cleanest” of coals, burning smoke free with extremely high heat to create a unique taste and perfect pies. In addition to its famous pizzas, the restaurant’s simple and consistent menu features award-winning “Italian Soul Food” creations, including coal-oven-roasted chicken wings with caramelized onions, pork ribs with vinegar peppers, home-style meatballs made from a family recipe and Eggplant Marino (Dan’s favorite).

“We visited Florida in February 2013 and upon landing in Ft. Lauderdale, we stopped for lunch at Anthony’s Runway 84. During our 9 day stay, we had Anthony’s Coal Fired Pizza and [went] back to dinner at Anthony’s Runway 84 just before departing from Ft. Lauderdale Airport. You are to be complimented because growing up Italian, we never ordered meatballs outside, but we tried yours for an appetizer and have had them several times.”
